NGO Disaster Relief Forum (NDRF)

CID facilitates the Non-Governmental Organisations Disaster Relief Forum (NDRF), an open forum for New Zealand based NGOs that have an interest and involvement in international humanitarian response and emergency management issues. The NDRF is an autonomous sub-committee of CID.

The aim of the NDRF is to provide a collective civil society voice and forum for co-operation and shared learnig for best practice in international humanitarian assistance for New Zealand NGOs.

The NDRF also encourages observers to engage with the NDRF and contribute to outcomes of the forum.

Mission

To provide a forum for New Zealand Non-Government Organisations involved in International Disaster Relief.

 

Key Objectives

 

  • To act as a co-ordinating point and forum for liaison with the New Zealand Government on matters relating to overseas disasters.
  • To provide information to the media and public on NDRF membership, contacts and forum concerns.
  • To develop inter-agency cooperation where possible through the sharing of experiences and information concerning international disasters and relief activity.
  • To facilitate greater awareness and interest in potential and existing international disaster situations.
  • To promote greater understanding of the relationship between disasters and development.

 

Communication

 

  • NDRF is an initial point of contact between the New Zealand Government and the NGO community, disseminating information on relief needs, priorities and member information.
  • NDRF will be represented at Government Emergency Taskforce Meetings.
  • NDRF will endeavour, where appropriate, to facilitate communication between members and Pacific Island and other communities resident in New Zealand.
  • The broader international aid and development NGO community will be kept informed of the work of the forum.
  • The NDRF is neither a campaigning nor a political body.

 

Membership

NDRF membership is open to New Zealand based NGOs with a significant involvement in overseas disaster relief activity, subject to the following
criteria:

 

  1. A national organisation.
  2. A proven capacity to deliver disaster relief assistance.
  3. A signatory of the ‘Code of Conduct for the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) in Disaster Relief’.
  4. Compliance with:

 

  • All those laws and state regulations which are applicable to the agency.
  • Publish a freely available annual report which indicates:
    - a description of the organisation’s major activities during the year.
    - an annual financial audited by an appropriately qualified, independent auditor.

Applications for Membership and Acceptance Procedures

A written application for membership is required demonstrating adherence to the membership criteria.

 

 

Membership Fees

Annual fees are $100 per organisation for CID members, $200 per year for non members.

 

Meetings

The NDRF meets a minimum of three time a year. These meetings are rotated between Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
