The head of CID’s sister organisation in the Pacific PIANGO backgrounds us on West Papua’s struggle for liberation. This is one of the longest and bloodiest self-determination battles in the world having started in 1962 when Indonesia annexed and occupied the territory by force. The issue of West Papua is potentially divisive for the region, given Indonesia’s growing influence. Pacific civil society is calling for the UN to intervene to halt the gross human rights violations faced by the indigenous people there. Find out more about the groundswell of support for West Papuans throughout the Pacific.
Please pass this on to your colleagues. Gold coin donation from non-CID members appreciated.
