On the eve of World Humanitarian Day, CID invites you to hear Mark Mitchell’s reflections on coordination in the humanitarian space. Mark will draw on his extensive experience responding to a wide range of disasters, most recently Tropical Cyclone Pam, Nepal Earthquake, Typhoon Haiyan and the Christchurch Earthquakes. Mark will showcase his experience from coordination mechanisms including the Pacific Humanitarian Team (PHT), Vanuatu Humanitarian Team (VHT), coordination cells and the UN cluster system.
Mark Mitchell is currently the Humanitarian Programmes Coordinator at Caritas Aotearoa New Zealand where he has worked for the last four and half years. Mark has significant experience, spanning almost 20 years, in humanitarian logistics and has responded to humanitarian emergencies and conflicts across Africa, Europe and Asia. Whilst living in Africa he established a company in Mozambique with a local partner, providing professional support to companies and NGOs. Mark now lives with Julia and his two children, Hannah (12) and Emma (9) in Wellington, New Zealand. Between travel and family commitments he is working towards a Masters in Emergency Management through Massey University.
