To celebrate the International Day of the Girl 2013, Te Papa is hosting a special forum and film screening. Prepare for a spirited discussion about girls in art, museum collections, and the community.

Sunshine Prior of UN Women New Zealand (the United Nations organisation dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women) opens the afternoon with an introduction to the International Day of the Girl.


The panel features:

Ashley Remer - Founder and Head Girl of Girl Museum a virtual space for research exhibitions, and education.

Lynette Townsend - Curator Communities and Diversity, Te Papa

Rebecca Rice - Curator New Zealand Art, Te Papa

Rachel Yates - Curator Pacific Cultures, Te Papa

 

2.15pm: Girl Rising

Girl Rising (running time 101 min) tells the stories of nine remarkable girls from different countries. It promotes the importance of girls’ rights and education around the world. The film will be followed by a 20-minute open forum discussion.
