6.30 pm - The Security Council – The Question of the Veto, Colin Keating
We are delighted that Colin Keating former NZ Permanent Representative to the United Nations and former Chair of the Security Council has agreed to speak to us as he is a very experienced and respected commentator on the United Nations and in particular the Security Council
Colin Keating is an independent adviser on international affairs. He currently advises the New Zealand Government and various international clients. From 2013- 2014 he was a Special Envoy of the New Zealand Prime Minister advising and lobbying in support of the successful New Zealand campaign for election to the United Nations Security Council.
For much of his career, Mr. Keating was a New Zealand diplomat. From 1993 to 1996, he was the NZ Ambassador to the UN and represented New Zealand on the Security Council in 1993-94. In 1997, he was appointed as the Secretary of Justice. Subsequently he was a partner in private legal practice in New Zealand. From 2005-2011 he was the founding Executive Director of Security Council Report in New York. He was at that time concurrently a Senior Research Fellow at Columbia University.
