CID Certificate in Core Developmental Practice

This certificate is designed for CID members who are currently working in the international development sector and who wish to gain a basic qualification in the concepts and skills necessary to function effectively and with understanding.

CID Certificate in Core Developmental Practice

 

Introduction:

This certificate is designed for CID members who are currently working in the international development sector and who wish to gain a basic qualification in the concepts and skills necessary to function effectively and with understanding. 

 

The course consists of eight one-day units spread over two years. Participants can undertake the units in any sequence, but the full eight units must be completed within four years. Each unit is open to all members of the sector, but only people registered for the certificate will have it accredited to their qualification.

 

Each unit costs $50 and may be paid ‘as you go’. A certificate will be presented to participants on completion of the requirements.  

 

How is it made up?

The units included in the certificate syllabus are:

 

1.       Introduction to the KOHA Fund

 

2.   What is Development? An introduction to core development concepts.

 

3.   What is partnership? What are the characteristics of a real partnership and how do these relate to our work with international partners?

 

4.   Appraisal, monitoring and evaluation. How do we know how effective we are being?

 

5.   A human rights approach to development.

 

6.   Gender and development.

 

7.   The Treaty and development. (Part A) Fundamentals of the Treaty. Why is an understanding of the Treaty essential for NZ NGOs.

 

8.   Financial management of projects.

 

What about the training I have already done?

Modules will be credited to you if:

 

·         You have done a workshop on the topic with CID in the last three years

·         You have done a relevant paper during a Development Studies course

Registration for the Certificate can be found on the CID website www.cid.org.nz and click on ‘Training’. Registration closes on 31 January 2007 for the upcoming year’s intake.
