Government resources Charities Commission http://www.charities.govt.nz/ A "must use" site for NGOs as it handles NGO Registrations, gives guidance for good governance and financial reporting.
Department of Internal Affairs http://www.dia.govt.nz/diawebsite.nsf This site contains information on grants, policy papers, legal issues, training and project monitoring for Community organisations and NGOs. Check out http://www.grantsonline.govt.nz/ for information on access to Lottery Grant and Community Organisation Grants Scheme applications. Department of Labour http://www.ers.govt.nz/ Everything you ever wanted to know regarding employment relations, such as calculating holiday pay, parental leave, and unions (who often support similar development initiatives to NGOs). Local Government Online http://access.localgovt.co.nz/ Covers information about New Zealand's 86 local government councils including contact details, policy documents and a library of resources. NZAID http://www.nzaid.govt.nz/ The main government resource for international development NGOs. Has the most up to date information on KOHA, HAF and other funding streams. Top

Volunteering Overseas guide by VSA http://www.vsa.org.nz/volunteer/VolunteeringBooklet.pdf An excellent resource for the sector. This is more than a booklet for potential volunteers. It gives NGOs who use volunteers a lot to think about in terms of the type of volunteer programmes they run, and how those are viewed by the wider community. Top
General and wide ranging websitesBOND - British Overseas NGOs for Development http://www.bond.org.uk CID's sister organisation in the UK, the BOND website provides an excellent series of Guidance Notes on a number of themes, from Project Budgeting to Advocacy and Core Funding. BOND's Quality Standards Group website http://quality.bond.org.uk/index.php On this website, you'll find real-life case studies of how different NGOs manage quality. There are also easy-to-read summaries of key research and notes on related initiatives. MANGO http://www.mango.org.uk A respected UK charity focused on strengthening NGO financial management, has produced an excellent set of guides. Law Access http://www.lawaccess.lsa.govt.nz/default2.aspx A website with legal related information and resources from variety of different organisations. New Zealand Federation of Voluntary Welfare Organisations http://www.nzfvwo.org.nz/ The New Zealand Federation of Voluntary Welfare Organisations is an excellent portal with tons of information. Most useful are quick, online exercises you can use to "test" if your organisation is up to date with new legal requirements. A must visit for many NGOs. New Zealand Societies and Trusts http://www.societies.govt.nz Allows you to keep an eye on important developments with relation to your Charitable Status. Free Parking http://www.freeparking.co.nz/ low cost domain name registration, and helps build your website using tutorials Wellington Community Network http://www.wcn.net.nz/ Offers free hosting for not-for-profit websites in the Wellington region. NGO fundingCharity Focus http://www.charityfocus.org/ As well as website development, Charity Focus has an easy online Pledge Page that helps NGOs raise money. Good Practice Funding http://www.goodpracticefunding.govt.nz/good-funding-processes/grants/funding-ngos-using-grants.html Run by the Office for the Community and Voluntary Sector, this site is best suited for NGOs that do community development within New Zealand, as well as overseas.
