Save the Children New Zealand (SCNZ) invites suitably experienced and qualified individuals to apply for the Fiji based position of Pacific School Safety Regional Coordinator. This is a new position designed to inspire and lead a culture of School safety in the Pacific. The initial term of the fixed term position is for 12 months, with the possibility of extension following a performance evaluation at the end of the period. This position is under the overall direction of the Director of International Programmes, Save the Children New Zealand.

About the Project
The Pacific Coalition for the Advancement of School Safety (PCASS) 2022 – 2025 programme, supported by the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, will bring together different partners in the Pacific to collectively work on the promotion and implementation of a comprehensive approach to school safety. The PCASS 2022 programme takes an all-hazards and all-risks approach to all aspects of school safety by ensuring appropriate disaster management and child protection practices are effectively implemented within the education sector and ensuring that through teaching, a culture of safety and resilience is built.
About the Role
The Regional Coordinator will be tasked with the following objectives:
- Lead the re-establishment of the Pacific Coalition for the Advancement of School Safety (PCASS), including developing a yearly workplan, re-invigorating regional school safety networks, identifying where a School Safety hub might fit within existing regional forums/organisations, identify a national/regional host organisation, management of budgets, monitoring and reporting requirements and supervision of any staff in line with the agreed work programme.
- Provide high-quality technical advice and assistance to key School Safety stakeholders including Ministries of Education, National Disaster Management Offices, Ministries of Children’s Affairs and other.
- Serve as a coordination focal point for regional school safety-related initiatives, as agreed by different Pacific networks of stakeholders (i.e., research, advocacy work, regional school safety tools/resources development, campaigns, and others).
- Represent the interests of Save the Children Oceania’s Members and Country Offices at the regional level and as mandated by OCHA, support Save the Children as co-Lead of the regional and national Education Cluster, as required.
It goes without saying that you will need to be enthusiastic, focused, budget management savvy, confident in providing high quality technical advice to stakeholders and have exceptional coordination skills.
Additionally, your people skills will be second to none and building strong relationships both internally and with external stakeholders will come naturally to you.
Do you have what it takes?
- You have an advanced degree (Masters or equivalent) in Education, Social Sciences, International Development, or any related field relevant to school safety.
- You have experience in working in mid-level or senior management, or in technical positions within Pacific governments or international programme or humanitarian organisations and can demonstrate your ability in working effectively within a Pacific context particularly in the areas of education, inclusive school safety, DRR and CCA, resilience or humanitarian governance.
- You have strong analytic skills trends and institutional analysis, systems thinking, critical analysis of approaches and strategies.
- You have robust knowledge and understanding of school safety and familiarity of existing relevant global frameworks and standards.
- You have a proven track record of being able to manage large partnerships programs including a demonstrated ability to lead a regional or multi-country programs and additionally, you have experience in effectively managing budgets and driving outcomes.
- You possess the ability to articulate ideas clearly, communicate effectively, and have a strong command of written English.
