- Use your Finance & Operational skills to support vulnerable Women & Children in Bougainville
- VSA covers costs including flights, medical, accommodation and pays a living allowance
The Autonomous Region of Bougainville emerged from years of Civil conflict in 1998 and since that time has been in the process of re-building the region from the ground up. The people of Bougainville have suffered much social and political trauma, but they remain extremely resilient, proud and determined to repair and improve the island's infrastructure. With a combined effort of its own people’s hard work and funding and technical assistance from international sources, Bougainville has the potential for a bright and peaceful future.
An unfortunate reality of Bouganville today, however, is a high rate of violence in the lives of its Women and children. The Nazareth Rehabilitation Programme (NCFR) was founded in the same year the conflict ended and was initially established to address the issue of family violence and to provide counselling services. Over the past decade, this has broadened to include three safe houses, the supply of basic paralegal aid to women, alcohol and drug awareness education for youth as well as a space to hold conferences, training and meetings. This space – The Nazareth Training Centre (NTC) caters food and accommodation for participants of workshops and seminars and is an important revenue earner for the organisation.
The focus of this assignment will be to build the financial and organisational management capacity of NCFR staff. The volunteer will advise on the current effectiveness of the operational processes in place, making suggestions for improvement and efficiency. The assignment will involve providing ongoing mentoring as staff learn to utilise the updated systems, supporting them to undertake much needed financial reporting and create work plans that are sustainable and easy to follow.
This is an opportunity for someone with a varied background in finance, who enjoys process improvement and has experience in a grassroots business, to make a huge impact on a small but valuable organisation.
They are looking for a volunteer with:
- A Finance qualification and relevant experience in a varied finance role
- Computer literate and experience developing and implementing both finance systems and office administrative systems and processes
- People management experience including on-the-job training and mentoring of a team
- Experience in establishing innovative funding streams
- Experience in grassroots type businesses
