Lord Fakafanua, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Tonga, has just been named as a member of the IPU Forum of Young Parliamentarians Board.
The Forum of Young Parliamentarians aims to ensure youth voices in parliament are heard in global-political decision making. This is a significant moment for Tonga, and the South Pacific, as Fakafanua is the first MP from this part of the world to be elected onto this board.
Fakafanua was nominated for the role by the Asia-Pacific group of Parliamentarians, and received the position while attending the 146th IPU assembly in Manama, Bahrain last week.
