Concerns climate change will heighten food insecurity in Southeast Asia

Posted on 12 October 2023

Food insecurity in Southeast Asia is not a new issue, but with the threat of climate change becoming more imminent, many people within the region are increasingly concerned this insecurity will be further excarbated.

When asked how concerned they were by the threat of climate change on food insecurity, 7 in 10 people were deeply worried. According to the ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute, increased flooding, heatwaves and soaring rice prices mean that farmers are already struggling to meet demand and consumers are struggling to buy.
