Full time, permanent

Save the Children New Zealand is looking for a communications superstar to join our team as a Communications and Media Advisor.

Here in Aotearoa New Zealand and around the world, Save the Children works to create irreversible positive change for and with children. Our vision is a world in which every child attains the right to survival, protection, development, and participation, by inspiring breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and achieving lasting change in their lives.

Working alongside our Communications, Campaigns and Media Director, you will play a vital role servicing the wider organisation, contributing to Save the Children’s strategic goals by telling inspiring stories about our work through media and a range of channels. Collaboration will be your strong suit as you support teams across the organisation, supporting projects and events, writing and creating a variety of communications pieces for different audiences, and helping create compelling campaigns that inspire people to take action, and understand the impact they’re making.

Ideally based in Wellington (with options to work from home up to two days per week). Will consider remote staff on a case-by-case basis.

Key Responsibilities

1. Media Relations: Develop and maintain strong relationships with media outlets, journalists, and influencers to amplify the organisation's message and increase public awareness. Where necessary, take an active role in crisis communications.

2. Content creation and management: Create compelling content, including media releases, feature articles, blog posts, emails, and social media posts, that effectively communicates Save the Children's mission, programmes, and impact. Help manage Save the Children’s digital platforms, such as the Media Hub or Story Hub, up-to-date by writing and uploading new and engaging content.

3. Campaign support: Support the development and execution of media campaigns and advocacy initiatives aimed at raising awareness of key issues affecting children and promoting positive change.

4. Event support: Including AGM, campaign and donor or volunteer events.

Qualifications and experience:

 - Tertiary degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field.

-  Proven experience in media relations, communications, or public relations, preferably within the non-profit sector.

-  Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages for different audiences and platforms.

- Ability to work effectively under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities.

- Experience working with diverse stakeholders and multicultural communities is desirable.
