Humanitarian needs in Gaza continue to soar after one month of Middle East conflict

Posted on 09 November 2023

It has now been over four weeks since Hamas launched an attack on Israel, and Israel retaliated with air strikes on, and a total seige of, the Gaza strip.

As of November 7, the death toll in Israel was 1,400 and Gaza's had exceeded 10,000, majority being women and children, and including record numbers of journalists, and humanitarian aid and health workers. Currently, 1.5 million people in Gaza are internally displaced.
At a New York press conference this week, UN Secretary-General António Guterres announced the organisation were launching a US $ 1.2 billion appeal to address the needs of 2.7 million people in Gaza and the West Bank.
"The unfolding catastrophe makes the need for a humanitarian ceasefire more urgent with every passing hour" urged Guterres. "The parties to the conflict — and indeed, the international community — face an immediate and fundamental responsibility: to stop the inhuman collective suffering and dramatically expand humanitarian aid to Gaza."

New Zealand INGOs need public support to provide life saving assistance to civilians in the region. Below is a list of organisations who have launched public appeals for the crisis:
