Full-time
- International programme coordination for design, planning and delivery in the Oceania, South and Southeast Asia regions
- Thorndon, Wellington Offices
Caritas Aotearoa New Zealand (CANZ) is the Catholic Bishops’ agency for justice, peace and development. We work in partnership and solidarity with communities throughout the world to promote human dignity and the common good. Our work of hope tackles both the causes and effects of poverty and injustice and responds swiftly to human and natural disasters. We promote advocacy and education for justice in New Zealand and Oceania, and we play an integral part in the worldwide Caritas network of over 160 relief, development, and social service organisations. We are part of the Oceania Caritas network who collaborate on issues within our region as well as the Caritas Internationalis global network.
Purpose:
Working within a small, committed international programmes team, and reporting to the Head of International Development Programmes, the International Programmes Coordinator will support the planning, design, coordination of delivery and monitoring of Caritas’ international development and humanitarian programmes across the Oceania region.
The Coordinator will ensure the successful delivery of the assigned programme portfolio by supporting and monitoring partners across all stages of the project cycle, with a strong focus on quality and impact. In the immediate term, this includes managing the closeout and reporting of current projects while supporting the effective start-up of anticipated new initiatives.
The role also involves coordinating programme delivery activities for the team, supporting partners and colleagues with funder contract management and reporting requirements, and fostering strong, trust-based relationships with partners. In addition, it contributes to programme monitoring and evaluation, promotes understanding of justice, peace and development issues, and ensures timely information sharing to strengthen programme design and delivery, and to maximise impact.
Key responsibilities
- Partner-led international programme coordination: Coordinate partner-led programmes across Oceania, supporting partners with work plan development, budget monitoring, implementation tracking, and alignment with funding agreements, programme goals and quality standards.
- Partner and stakeholder engagement: Support strong, trust-based relationships with partners and stakeholders, enabling effective communication, coordination and timely information sharing.
- Programme planning and design support: Contribute to the development and design of new programmes, including preparation of documentation and inputs for emerging funding opportunities.
- Programme administration: Maintain documentation and records, support efficient project management processes, and utilise tools to track progress and provide regular updates.
- Programme monitoring and compliance support: Assist with monitoring, evaluation and reporting to ensure programmes meet donor requirements, organisational policies and recognised international quality standards
About you - Mō te Kaitono:
You will bring a bachelor’s degree in international development, project management, business administration or a related field, and at least three years’ experience in international programme coordination or project management within international development and humanitarian contexts, preferably within the Oceania region.
The successful candidate will:
- Have experience supporting international development or humanitarian programmes, including coordination of partner relationships.
- Demonstrate initiative and strong organisational skills in programme planning, coordination and reporting.
- Have experience contributing to programme design and development.
- Understand aid policy trends and the principle of subsidiarity in international development.
- Bring strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to partner effectively with communities, organisations and funders.
- Align with and show affinity for the mission and values of Caritas.
- Have an understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles; knowledge of Te Reo Māori and Tikanga Māori is an advantage.
This is a meaningful and rewarding role supporting partner-led international development and humanitarian programmes across the Oceania, South and Southeast Asia regions. You will play a part in ensuring programmes are impactful, culturally responsive, and aligned with Caritas’ strategy, mission and values.
If you are passionate about international development and supporting vulnerable communities through effective programme delivery and capacity building, we would love to hear from you.
