Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting kicks off in Cook Islands

Posted on 09 November 2023

On Monday, the 52nd Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) Leaders Meeting began in Raratonga, Cook Islands, themed “Our Voices, Our Choices, Our Pacific Way: Promote, Partner, Prosper.”

The Forum consists of five days of high level meetings and dialogues where Forum leaders collaborate on challenges and opportunities in the Pacific, and ultimately agree on policies to benefit those in the region. This year’s focuses will include an implementation plan for the 2050 Strategy, climate change (in the lead up to COP28), as well as nuclear, labour mobility and regional security issues.

PIF Chair, and Cook Islands Prime Minister Mark Brown, spoke at the Smaller Islands States (SIS) Leaders meeting on day one of the forum, saying the meeting and its theme acts as “a tribute to our strengthening efforts to define our development trajectory and the types of partnerships required to support the achievement of our vision.”
