Resurgence of fighting in DRC

Posted on 07 June 2022

The United Nations Refugee Agency has expressed concern over the recent resurgence of conflict in the North Kivu Province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Since the 19th of May, fighting has resumed in the Rutshuru and Nyiragongo territories. Over the last week, 7000 civilians have fled to Uganda from the conflict. The UNHCR in Uganda is working with other actors to deliver emergency assistance to the 25,000 people who have crossed the border since 28 March and are taking shelter in UNHCR facilities.
