Sri Lanka on verge of humanitarian emergency

Posted on 20 June 2022

Over 300 Sri Lankans have attempted to enter Australia as Sri Lanka’s economic crisis worsens. Those interviewed on the boats claim they were told they would be able to gain entry to Australia under the new Labor government. However, the two boats that made it to Australian waters have been denied entry. It is expected that more Sri Lankans will seek asylum as the country risks economic distress and supplies of medicine and food are increasingly low. Labor’s policy remains the same on asylum seekers of those arriving on boat not being allowed entry into Australia.
