Syrian aid access threatened

Posted on 11 July 2022

Aid deliveries to the north-west of Syria are at risk as the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has thus far been unable to extend its authorization for the cross-border delivery of aid. This authorization was circumvented by Russia’s vetoing of the decision in the UNSC to extend aid delivery to north-west Syria beyond its current one-year mandate to do so.

Media office manager Mazen Allouche claims this will impact up to four million citizens, particularly refugee populations in light of the Ukraine conflict. This cross-border arrangement is the only way to distribute humanitarian assistance to north-west Syria without alarming government forces.
