Violent outbreak in Sudan worsens nation's crisis

Severe fighting has erupted in North Darfur over the last few days between the Sudanese army and the parliamentary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), with almost 100 civilians killed in the conflict The fatalities include three aid workers from the United Nations’ World Food Programme (WFP)and the organisation have announced they will temporarily halt their operations in the nation.
 
António Guterres, UN Secretary-General, spoke to the devastating clash prior to his remarks at the Economic and Social Council Forum on Financing for Development, saying “the humanitarian situation in Sudan was already precarious and is now catastrophic.”
 
“I urge all those with influence over the situation to use it in the cause of peace; to support efforts to end the violence, restore order and return to the path of transition.”
