The Council for International Development (CID) invites university students and member organisations to submit original written work for our writing contest, “Voices for Change: Humanitarian and Development Perspectives.” This initiative reflects the heart of our 2025 Annual Conference theme: Uniting Voices for Global Impact Through Collaboration.
In a world facing increasingly complex global challenges, the importance of shared knowledge, diverse perspectives, and community-informed action has never been clearer. Through this writing contest, CID seeks to amplify diverse voices and showcase thoughtful reflections on humanitarian and development issues.
Why Submit?
Selected winners will:
- Be awarded a ticket to the annual conference 2025 “Uniting Voices for Global Impact through Collaboration” on 20 August 2025
- A chance to gain professional recognition, grow your writing portfolio, and contribute meaningfully to the international development community.
Submission Guidelines
- Length: Approximately 500 words. Longer pieces are accepted with an attached 500-word summary.
- Content: Focused on humanitarian or development issues.
- Format: Clear, accessible language with accurate facts and appropriate references. We welcome opinion pieces, reflections, and thematic explorations that are respectful, original, and insightful.
- Permissions: By submitting, you grant CID permission to publish your work and name in CID communications should your entry be selected.
Submissions must be:
- Original and not previously published
- Factually accurate and appropriately referenced
- Respectful in tone, and free from discriminatory language or personal criticism.”
Eligibility Criteria
To enter, you must:
- Be a student enrolled at a New Zealand tertiary institution or affiliated with a CID member organisation
- Submit your writing by 5PM on 7 August 2025
