The Islamic Law of Armed Conflict: Facebook Live

Start: End:
Location: New Zealand Red Cross, 69 Molesworth St, Wellington

Over two-thirds of conflicts today are happening in Muslim contexts. How can laws of war relate to Islamic laws and protect civilians better?

Are Sharia law and international humanitarian law (IHL) compatible?

What do Islamic laws say about weapons of mass destruction and the use of force?

Join Red Cross for a Facebook Live event with Dr Ahmed Al-Dawoody, the legal adviser for Islamic law and jurisprudence at the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), as he answers these questions and more.

Hosting a public lecture and a Facebook live event in collaboration with New Zealand Red Cross, Dr Al-Dawoody will discuss the intersection between Islamic Law and IHL, the ways in which Islamic Law can contribute to increased respect for the laws of war and the potential challenges that may arise in cases when Islamic Law and IHL are in disagreement.

Please join them at 1pm on 14 February at Red Cross House, 69 Molesworth Street (in person) or by joining a Facebook Live event by clicking ‘going’ on the Facebook event page.
