250 million released from UN Emergency Relief Fund

Posted on 23 February 2023

The UN have announced they will release $250 million out of their emergency relief fund this year, the largest allocation ever made.

This decision is in response to the persistent global crises which are leaving more people vulnerable than ever before. “Around the world today, 339 million people are in need of humanitarian aid – an increase of more than 25 per cent since last year,” says UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

The fund will address situations in 19 countries, 12 of which are in Africa, who are experiencing a range of crises from famine and food shortages, to conflict and instability.
