7.4 magnitude earthquake hits the Philippines

On December 2, an offshore earthquake measuring 7.4 magnitude hit the Surigao del Sur municipality in the Philippines. A tsunami alert was raised, resulting in immediate evacuation of over 26,000 people residing in the region’s coastal areas, but was lifted soon after.
 
It was reported that 340,000 people were affected, and there is damage to roads and hospitals. With over 700 aftershocks recorded, there is concern this could further damage vulnerable structures. Government and partners are currently assessing the regions impacted and beginning the response efforts.
