Celebrating 30 years of the Fred Hollows Foundation New Zealand

Posted on 12 October 2023

The CID team were honoured to attend the celebration of 30 years of the Fred Hollows Foundation New Zealand, a long standing and valued CID member, at Government House on Tuesday 10 October.

Building on the work of New Zealand eye surgeon Fred Hollows, the foundation works in the Pacific to restore sight and improve access to quality eye care, with the ultimate goal of ending avoidable blindness in the region. It is also 30 years since Fred himself passed away, and the foundation has, and continues to, preserve his legacy. The New Zealand foundation has performed over 88,000 eye surgeries in the Pacific, and held over 1.1 million eye consultations in the region since its establishment.

Thank you to Governor-General The Rt Hon Dame Cindy Kiro for hosting us at New Zealand Government House for this special event. Most of all a huge thank you to Fred Hollows Foundation NZ for all the work you have done and continue to do to combat avoidable blindness in the Pacific.
