The people of Malawi require urgent humanitarian assistance in the wake of Tropical Cyclone Freddy, facing extreme flooding with a state of disaster declared in 14 districts. The event has claimed over 500 lives, damaged critical infrastructure like roads and health facilities, and displaced around half a million people.

Lazarus Chakwera, President of Malawi, has described the cyclone as the most devastating the country has ever experienced. The cyclone’s impact has also amplified the spread of Chlorea and worsened food security by devasting the agricultural industry.

Tropical Cyclone Freddy has now broken the records for the world’s most energetic storm ever observed and the longest-lived tropical cyclone ever recorded.
