Humanitarian concerns for Rohingya children as hundreds flee to Indonesia

Posted on 29 November 2023

Indonesia has been experiencing an influx of Rohingya refugees following the most recent escalation of violence, with over 1000 Rohingya people having arrived on Indonesian shores over the past month. There is significant concern for children’s safety, with Save the Children reporting 465 children arrived in Indonesia within a week period.

“Rohingya children are putting their lives on the line by taking these extremely dangerous journeys” says Sultana Begum, Humanitarian Policy and Advocacy Manager at Save the Children Asia. “Many of them are on boats for days, sometimes even weeks, and are desperate for food and water when they reach land.”
