Last Wednesday it was voted in that the State of Emergency, declared after last month’s eruption of Mount Bagana on the island of Bougainville, has been extended for a maximum two months.

The eruption on July 7 resulted in ash spewed for 18km, with thousands displaced. The region continues to deal with the impact of volcanic effects - flooding, food and water security, education and damage to infrastructure.
