Pacific Music Awards

Posted on 09 August 2022

After being held online for two years, the Pacific Music Awards were held at the Vodafone Events Centre in Manakau on Thursday night. In 2004, a decision was made to move the Best Pacific Music Album from the New Zealand Music Awards event, creating the Pacific Music Awards instead.

Acknowledging the success of Pacific artists, celebrating and promoting excellence in Pacific music and encouraging young Pacific musicians to aspire to a higher level of achievement is the kaupapa of the awards. Best female artist went toe Emily Muli for her song, “Break”. Best Pacific Male Artist went to Kings for “Young 4Eva”. Fa'anana Jerome Grey’s iconic song We Are Samoa became the unofficial anthem of the country, seeing him receive the Manukau Institute of Technology Te Pukenga Lifetime Achievement Award.
