Public consultation on proposed modern slavery legislation

Posted on 12 January 2022

In 2021, Trade Aid and World Vision New Zealand launched a campaign calling for modern slavery legislation. Over 37,000 New Zealanders signed a public petition showing their support for the introduction of an act. Thank you to everyone who supported this work!

The NZ Government has recently committed to exploring Modern Slavery legislation, and public consultation on the proposals has begun.

Give feedback to consultation

This consultation will be used to inform any legislation put forward to Parliament. It is really important that humanitarian and human rights organisations contribute in the consultation to send a clear message that this legislation is wanted and needed. It is also important to feedback about how the proposed legislation should be designed to make sure it is fit for purpose.

If you missed the news at the end of last year, this campaign won the CID Collaboration Award.
